Advisers are being embarrassed. And it is costing them business! It occurs when their clients know more about stock market trading strategies than they do.
In an effort to save them face, Mentor Education and Trading Institute have launched a course to help advisers in the financial industry better understand what the masses are increasingly doing – their own trading online.
The Financial Review in November 2013 reported that Australians were participating in online trading at the second fastest rate in the world, second only to Singapore.
Derek Whitaker, founding director of Trading Institute, an organisation which teaches what professional options traders do to create consistent cash flow says, “It’s embarrassing for a professional to be taught by the customer what the professional should already know. But sadly it is happening far too often.”
“I often heard the complaint while consulting in accounting and law firms, from people frustrated that their own accountant or financial planner had no clue about the advanced strategies they’d learned at a seminar.”
They’d say, “I tell them I am doing ‘share renting’, and they look back at me blankly because they have no clue. I have to educate my own financial planner and accountant on stuff they should already know!”
“The other thing we noticed is many professionals didn’t know how to handle their newly empowered clients. Saying to the client, ‘Don’t do it. It sounds too dangerous,’ is a huge turn off! It is often said in ignorance, especially when the professional isn’t up to speed on what the client is talking about.”
“There are better ways to handle clients who are getting more and more empowered with advanced information,” says Derek.
“The truth is, in this day and age of the internet, mass information and access to sophisticated financial products is available like never before! The professional adviser must advance their own knowledge base, or risk losing clients because of what the market is demanding.”
Mark Sinclair, CEO of Mentor Education, a registered training organisation which offers qualifications to professionals in the financial services industry says, “We are delighted with this opportunity to partner with Trading Institute, and what it now offers. Not only can we empower professionals in the industry with this advanced education, but also offer them professional accreditation at the same time. We now can also properly educate even Mum and Dad investors. These trading tools are only a mouse click away, and many don’t realise there are smarter ways of handling things such as the stock market.”
The “Stock Options Trading” course has just been released as part of the accredited learning that Mentor Education now offers. Students have the option to learn online or in a class room setting. It’s a thorough introduction into the world of options trading walking through the 4 step process a trader goes through to learn their craft – mindset, theory, strategy, and practical.
Derek says, “A trader never stops learning. However, knowing where to start is one of the greatest challenges. When I started down this path a number of years ago, I discovered there was a scarcity of resources out there to teach you from the ground up. Most books required you to already have some financial or trading knowledge or base. So we designed this course to take a complete beginner through the various stages in plain English, to make options trading simple for the everyday person as well as the financial professional.”
